Express Tax Refund has been criticized in the past for being non-intuitive, posting only your W2 online and asking you to fill it in. This year, it promises to give an online interview then fill in your taxes. But, if its past responses to other criticisms are any indication, this may not be a very big improvement. The form does verify information you enter, but little else has been offered in the past by this company.

CompleteTax is online and offers no software. Since it is a simple download off the internet Express Tax Refund has always been easy tax preparation software to use.

This company has always promised fast refunds. That promise means less than it has in the past since a number of companies are promising a fast refund (some within 48 hours). The company's interface has been called "featureless" in past reviews. This extends to its website, which is very low on help for example. This is one of very few services allowing returns for two or more states, but even this has been found to be problematic.

In spite of the fact that this aspect has been criticized in the past, Express Tax Refund still only offers a FAQ section that is in itself not very helpful. Several links on the main page point to the same page. There are also complaints about phone help being quite unhelpful. All this gives Express Tax Refund the lowest score we can give.

There are registered complaints about the service, especially its filing of state taxes. The company's site features no happy testimonials.
